Here's to You, Old DePauw

I start school tomorrow! I know I'm going to be too excited/nervous to sleep, so I thought I'd write a little blog post to pass the time.

Matt left last night, and it was hard. It's mostly difficult, because I'm about to have a whole lotta new in my life...new school(s) (you're looking at a student representing 3 of the 4 St. Louis Community Colleges this semester!), new living arrangement (I have my own room back to myself, by the way), new choir (starts tomorrow as well), new major...the list goes on and on. The point is that I don't know how a lot of things will turn out. All I can do is hope that I'm in the right place in my life right now and courageously pour all of myself into what I'm doing(even though I'm scared out of my mind). If Matt were around, I feel like it would give me just enough boost of confidence that I would need to not be so scared. I know, though, that this is better in the end. I survived and even had an amazing four years at DePauw without him near (not to say that he wasn't near in my heart and always there for me when I needed to talk). Our long distance relationship really has been in a blessing in that it's taught me that I can be just one half of a healthy relationship and still be a healthy and totally independent person on my own as well.

Speaking of DePauw, I went and visited for a couple of days this past weekend, since I was already close in Indianapolis recording (get this) Swedish songs for a CD that I cannot wait to hear. It was such a neat experience to sing with a group of talented ensemble singers and baroque instrumentalists that you don't often get to enjoy listening to. I now have had just a glimpse into the complicated process that goes into making a recording.

Anywho, back to DePauw. I got Marvin's (duh), and since the school is so small, I literally ran into all the people I wanted to see and love that still are students there. I happened to be staying overnight with my friend Erica on freshmen move-in day. This trip turned out to be exactly what I needed just before I start school here in St. Louis tomorrow. Seeing the freshmen class move in, who essentially replace my class that just graduated, I felt like I was witnessing a natural cycle that must happen. It brought me closure. I realize that I had a great four years at DePauw and was able to make close friends there that I still keep in touch with. Why wouldn't I be able to do the same here in St. Louis? I think there may be times when I look back this semester on my DePauw memories and wish that I was still in that comfortable place, but I realize that time in my life has ended. The experiences I had there will always be a part of me, though, and they'll accompany me into even more exciting adventures to come.
