I'm watching Golden Girls and studying for pathophysiology tomorrow.I feel pretty well prepared. Matt is home for an entire week. Life is good :)

Matt and I were talking the other day, and I think I've figured out why I struggle in some of my nursing classes at times. I'm one of those people that needs to really understand relationships among things, what causes are, and just understand the whole picture as to why things happen. In this accelerated program (and maybe nursing school in general), there is so much to know about so many different kinds of diseases and drugs that our professors simplify things or leave out information as to not overwhelm us. However, in the process, I don't get the background information I need to make sense of things. It can be frustrating, because I need to thoroughly understand something before I can commit it to memory. I'm hoping I get better at it, because it looks like I'm going to need to learn how to do this, but part of me doesn't think memorizing something is worth anything unless I really understand.

I'm having difficulty motivating myself to do these long hours of studying each night. I already learned about half way through my previous degree that grades aren't the most important thing in the world. It's more about the experiences you have and learning and building a knowledge base that's important for your future in the "real world." I'm now back in school, and many of my classmates are very big overachievers as well. As my last post showed, I'm already nervous about finding employment in the future, and now I'm wondering again how important grades are in getting the job you want. Any thoughts?

On another note, I have senioritis, and I feel that this is perfectly normal as someone who has under a year of school left (I'm a senior for this whole year, right?).

Anyway, back to studying again :)

  1. I've never thought grades were that important. But I guess it depends what field you're in. Maybe they're more important in the medical field, but I wouldn't stress too too much over it.
