Nursing School Jitters

So, next week is finals week for me. However, I can NOT concentrate on studying right now. All I've been thinking about is starting nursing school! It starts in 33 days...so soon! I've been spending my time looking up scrubs, the really expensive book I'll need, and the comfiest shoes (suggestions encouraged). Did I mention my classes start in 33 days??

One thing I'm grateful for is that I've already met four people that are going to be in my program. I'm excited, because just in that group of four people, there is such diversity in terms of age, life experience, and (surprisingly) gender. I've been trying to gather tips from current nursing students and just really want to succeed. I really hope that I'm up to the challenge of this accelerated program. Just think...by this time next year (if all goes well), I'll have a Bachelors of Science in Nursing and officially be a nurse! I'm really hoping that the whole philosophy of nursing makes sense to me and that I'm able to pick up on things easily. All I hear from everyone in a program now is how different nursing classes are from any other classes they've ever taken. Gosh, I'm so nervous/excited!

I really want to succeed in nursing school so that I can say that I succeeded in music and nursing---two totally unrelated subjects. I'm proud of myself for having the guts to find my own program and venture into something totally new! I love learning about new things, so I think I will love it. I am determined to stay positive and love it...even though I'm going to be in class about 40 hours a week.

I was almost sad that today was my last day of microbiology. My professor was great, organized, and presented a ton of information in such an easy way to understand. I am also going to miss the people in that class (anatomy and nutrition, too). We developed such camaraderie in class, and I enjoyed getting to class early everyday and just chatting about nothing. We also helped each other out so much in terms of studying. I really hope I meet people like this in nursing school and almost wish I could take all of those people with me!

On a non-nursing school note, I've almost got my Christmas shopping finished (which makes me happy), and I will be in a choir concert with the St. Louis Chamber Chorus on December 20th in the beautiful Cathedral Basilica that you should all come to (if not for the music, just to gawk at the beautiful architecture). Edit: I just realized that this church also has the largest collection of mosaics in the world. Literally. The WORLD!

  1. first of all, i have NO DOUBT you will succeed in nursing school. you're brilliant & compassionate & one of the most capable & funny people i know. & the funny part is important, because you have to have a good sense of humor i think to care for people.

man, i wish i could come to your concert! do they ever make recordings? hopefully i can come visit you over the summer if you're not too busy, although i'm sure it will be hard to find time on both ends. i miss you soooooo much. oh, & it's your turn to e-mail. i'm waiting! :) love you!
